Template design for an editorial series at Refinery29 named The L-Suite. This monthly article is a play on the C-Suite and centers on different Latinx innovators in a variety of industries.
Designing the identity of Somos, Refinery29’s first Latix hub, as well as art directing ongoing content for this vertical.
While Refinery29 had been creating specific editorial packages dedicated to Latinx Heritage Month since 2017, on 2020 they’ve decided to launch a completely new vertical dedicated to the Latinx community. And so, Somos was born.
Somos would span everything from a dedicated micro site, editorial content, branded partnerships, social assets, spin off packages, advertising material, events, and more.
The goal was to bring Somos to life with a visual identity that felt unique to the platform while still being reminiscent of Refinery29’s brand. This was then applied through platforms, both by building new custom content, as well as setting up templates to ensure recurring consistency. Somos voice and aesthetic can be clearly recognized throughout design, illustration, video and photography.
Beyond Refinery29’s walls, Somos specifically seeks to commission and collaborate with creators belonging to the Latinx community, whose voices or visuals challenge outdated narratives and seek to break molds.
Somos was born out of multiple people’s love and hard work.
